Google Search Console Guide: Verify, Index & Track Keywords on Your Website
Google Search Console setup and indexing involves several important steps to ensure your site appears in search results effectively.
Connect Your Site to Google Search Console:
- Go to Analytics in Home Menu
- Click Keyword Search
- Click Connect and sign in to your Google account
- Grant required permissions
- Wait 72 hours for data generation
Prerequisites:
- Remove any site passwords from homepage
- Ensure domain is properly connected
- Site must be published (not in testing)
- Have a Google account ready
Index Your Site Using Two Methods:
- Submit Sitemap (Full Site Indexing):
- Access Google Search Console dashboard
- Click Sitemaps
- Enter your sitemap URL
- Submit for indexing
- URL Inspection Tool (Individual Pages):
- Open URL Inspection tool
- Enter specific page URL
- Click Request indexing
- Repeat for other pages
View Keywords Analytics:
- Check Keyword Search panel after 72 hours
- Access detailed data at search.google.com/search-console/
Important Notes:
- Custom domains must be active and properly connected
- Both http:// and https:// versions will be verified
- Robots.txt warnings are normal
- Indexing may take time to process
- Reconnect if you change primary domain
Troubleshooting:
- For connection errors, try reconnecting through Connected Accounts panel
- If keyword data doesn't appear, wait 72 hours
- Ensure your homepage isn't password protected
- Check domain connection if verification fails
