
How to Connect Your Bluehost Domain to Squarespace: DNS Setup Guide
Connecting a Bluehost domain to Squarespace requires modifying DNS records. Follow these steps to complete the connection:
Start the Connection in Squarespace:
- Go to Domains panel
- Click "Use a domain you own"
- Enter your domain name
- Click "Connect domain"
- Select Bluehost from dropdown
- Click "Continue"
Log into Bluehost:
- Visit bluehost.com and log in
- Navigate to Domains
- Find your domain
- Click "Manage" under Advanced DNS Records
- Select "Continue"
Add First CNAME Record:
- Host: [unique code from Squarespace]
- Type: CNAME
- Points to: verify.squarespace.com
Add Second CNAME Record:
- Host: www
- Type: CNAME
- Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com
Add Four A Records:
- Host: @ (for all records)
- Type: A
- Points to:
- 198.185.159.144
- 198.185.159.145
- 198.49.23.144
- 198.49.23.145
Important Notes:
- Keep Mail/Email records intact
- Delete any "Empty" host records
- Allow 24-72 hours for connection to complete
- Monitor progress in Squarespace DNS settings
- Green tags indicate successful connections
Troubleshooting:
- Use DNS Records Checker if "Cannot verify domain ownership" appears
- Contact Bluehost support for account-specific issues
- Wait full 72 hours before troubleshooting connection errors
The domain will show as "Connected" in your Domains panel once properly linked.
